7 home remedies to get rid of tan

Sunshine adds a radiant to our pictures and acts as a natural filter, which is why we all love getting sun kissed. But what we don’t realize is that too much exposure to UV radiation, could lead to the production of melanin (brown pigment) in body which results in tanning. Once tanned, the exposed area looks darker than your normal skin tone and it looks so unattractive.
Nowadays, multiple kinds of sunscreens are available which have SPF that helps to protect you against UV rays and prevents tanning.

If you’ve developed suntan in summers and it’s becoming a cause of worry, then relax! We have got some easy home remedies to say goodbye to that stubborn tan!

1. Turmeric.

Why turmeric?
Turmeric contains curcumin, which helps to retard the production of melanin. Lesser the melanin develops, lesser is the tanning. It works magical on the damaged skin as it is the most effective beauty ingredient.

How to apply?
Mix 1tbsp. of turmeric powder, 1tbsp. of tomato juice and 1tbsp. yogurt to get a smooth paste.
Apply this paste on affected area and leave it for 15minutes. Then, wash it off with cool water in circular motions.
You will see the results after 3-4 applications. You can do this twice a week.

2. Aloe Vera

Why Aloe Vera?
Aloe Vera is widely used for skin care and is known for its healing properties. It has high percentage of aloesin which prevents melanin production in our body. Aloe Vera is also called fountain of youth, as its helps to retain the elasticity and health of skin.

How to apply?
You can scoop out some gel out of the Aloe Vera gel and rub it directly on your face.
Else, you can mix equal amounts of Aloe Vera gel and rose water and apply this paste on the affected area. After 10 minutes, wash off with lukewarm water.
Rose water when combined with Aloe Vera works wonder on skin.

3. Potato Juice

Why potato juice?
Known for its natural bleaching properties, it helps to remove pigmentation and suntan. It also has Vitamin C in high percentage which is very beneficial for skin.

How to apply?
Either you can directly rub a potato slice on your face or you can squeeze out some potato juice after grating it and then apply the juice on your face with the help of a cotton ball.

4. Gram Flour

Why gram flour?
Easy to find in kitchen, it has various applications in skin treatments too. It makes you skin looks shiny, clear and rejuvenating. It works as a natural exfoliator and imparts glow to the skin.

How to apply?
Take 2tbsps. of gram flour, add 1tbsp. of milk, 1tbsp. of rose water and a pinch of turmeric. Mix till you get a smooth paste. Apply this on your face and leave it for 20 minutes then wash off with normal water.
Perform it thrice a week and you will love the results.

5. Cucumber Juice

Why cucumber juice?
It helps to improve the texture of your skin due to its high antioxidant properties. It also hydrates the skin and is very effective in removing blemishes and sun tan as it works like an astringent on skin.

How to apply?
In a bowl, mix together 1tbsp. cucumber juice, 1tbsp. rose water and 1tbsp. lemon juice. Now dip a cotton ball into this bowl and dab it on your face gently.
Leave it to dry and then wash off with cool water.

6. Tomato Juice

Why tomato juice?
Rich in antioxidants, it is an excellent ingredient in face masks to fade away the darkness and gives an instant glow to your skin. It balances the pH level of the skin and is widely used to treat sun tan.

How to apply?
Blend together chopped pieces of a tomato and 2tbsp. of yoghurt. You will get a smooth paste, apply this paste on your face and wash off after 20 minutes.
You can also rub a tomato slice directly on your face.

7. Papaya

Why papaya?
Due to its natural bleaching and exfoliating properties, it nourishes the skin well. It also contains an enzyme, papain which helps to remove dead cells and whitens the skin tone.

How to apply?
Mash 5-6cubes of ripe papaya with 1 tbsp. of honey with the help of a fork. Mash well to get smooth consistency. Apply this mask on the affected area and leave it for 15 minutes. Then, wash off with normal water.
Honey added to the mask will accelerate the properties of papaya and it will also moisturize your skin.

All these masks are equally effective, you can pick any of these according to the availability of ingredient and your skin type. Remember, good things take time. Give time to your skin to get amazing results.
